This article is for general awareness and is not medical advice or a substitute for assessment by a qualified doctor. In an emergency in the Kingdom, call 997 immediately.
Before you travel
- Check the vaccination requirements announced by the Ministry of Health for your season, well before you travel.
- See your doctor if you have a chronic condition, and ask for a medication plan and a brief medical summary.
- Pack enough medicine for the trip plus a spare supply, in the original packaging.
- Carry a card with your name, conditions, medicines, allergies and a contact number.
During the rituals
- Drink water regularly and do not wait until you are thirsty.
- Use an umbrella and choose the coolest times to move around whenever possible.
- Wear comfortable shoes and check your feet daily, especially if you have diabetes.
- Wash your hands often, and wear a mask in crowds if you are more vulnerable to infection.
Signs of heatstroke, such as high body temperature, confusion and no longer sweating, are an emergency: get help immediately and call 997.
Older adults and patients
Assign one regular companion, spread the rituals out with rest breaks, and make use of the facilities provided for older adults and people with disabilities.
