This article is for general awareness and is not medical advice or a substitute for assessment by a qualified doctor. In an emergency in the Kingdom, call 997 immediately.
Why does it matter to you?
- When you see a new doctor or ask for a medical second opinion, the information is ready.
- There is less need to repeat lab tests and scans.
- The doctor can see changes over time, which is often more important than a single result.
- When travelling or in an emergency, key information is available quickly.
What should you keep?
- Hospital discharge summaries and surgical reports.
- Lab results, with their dates.
- Imaging reports, and the images themselves when possible.
- A list of current and past medicines, and any allergies.
- Vaccinations.
- The names and specialties of the doctors who treated you.
How to organize it
- Arrange files by date and name them clearly: date, then type, then provider.
- Keep a secure backup, and do not send your medical files through insecure channels.
- Use the Kingdom's official digital health services to view part of your record.
Your privacy comes first: share your file only with those who need it for your treatment, and only as much as is necessary.
